Hi Jim, just wanted to thank you for going to bat for the citizens of Keller. Giovanni Capriglione told me about your site. It answered questions about the progress of the petition. All you can do sometimes is push back. Keep pushing back.
I am the mostly fearless leader of The Boiling Point TEA Party Patriots in Keller. We meet at the Lions's Club in Keller. Our next meeting is April 22, 7:00PM, Thurs. The three candidates for the School Board are coming. Giovanni kept us informed on your fight. We would love to have you come join us. We need people like you who are willing to stand up.
You need people like us who will back you up. Everyone was ready to sign your petition. For months, the Keller Citizen dropped it's Letters to the Editior. I got on their case about it and word got back to the editor we were going to start a campaign encouraging people to drop delivery of the paper. We got our Letters column back (most of the time anyway). Keep writing.
You can reach me at 817-300-5610 if you have any questions.

What is the status of the petition? Has anyone heard if the AG office responded to the city's request on a ruling?

Jim,
Welcome back.
What is so frustrating to me is that we elect people, who after a time in office, consistently tell us," Do as I say, not as I do."
Can Dan, Pat and the rest of the city counsel honestly say that if they had a family member come to them and say, " When times were good, I purchased a house I really could not afford, a boat I didn't need, etc. and now I can't make the payments ...What do you think I should do?" Am I to believe these elected officials would say," Well, first of all, DO NOT make any painful cuts in your lifestyle, keep what you have-and contact the banks and extend out your payments for as long as possible."
Does anyone believe that the K.I.S.D. is going to make any serious attempt to balance their budget? Undoubtably, there will be stories of hand-wringing and painful cutbacks (in sports and music), but in the end the superintendent and his board of sycophants will still seek more taxpayer dollars..."For the good of the children, you see..."
Why won't OUR government do what families and businesses HAVE to do in down times? The answer is simple..because they have never been compelled to.

Bill, unfortunately we will not get a chance to vote against any property tax increase in the City of Keller. Tax rates are typically adjusted during the omnibus budgeting process, which is not subject to a public vote, and for procedural reasons cannot be overturned by a referendum petition.

There are three primary ways the city council can address its budget shortfall: 1) raise taxes, 2) cut spending or 3) increase debt. What we're trying to do here is deny the council's ability to increase debt. The council has expressed distaste for any tax increases, so that would leave them only one option: cut spending.

Every dime that the city spends will ultimately be paid by the taxpayers. If you're concerned about taxes, I urge you to email mayorandcouncil@cityofkeller.com and demand that they cut spending immediately--not waiting for next year's budget and certainly not borrowing.

I'm completely against any more tax increases. Keller needs to stay within the budget they have set. I'm glad the Library initiative failed. What if we would have to pay for that now? I encourage taxpayers in Keller and in the multi-city Keller ISD to join me in voting NO to any tax increases by either the City of Keller or the Keller ISD. We're going to have enough tax increases and rate increases from our new Health Care Law........

I have formally asked the council to allow 30 days for the petition process. The council cannot consider my request until at least Tuesday, March 30 at the budget work session.

But in any case, we expect to have more than the 500 required signatures within two weeks.

Jim, I may be wrong, but Tuesday evening it sounded to me like the city plans to sell the bonds for the TIRZ refinancing within 3 weeks. Once the bonds are issued they can't be called until 2017.

Welcome back Jim!

It will be nice to once again have a forum that enables Keller taxpayers to discuss important issues facing us in Depression II. I wrote a letter to the editor of the Keller Citizen regarding some of the issues facing us as a community but it was not published in this week's KC. There were some other letters that raised important points. So I will use this fine forum to post my unpublished letter free of same-stream media gatekeepers.

Just say no to more taxes (sent to keditor@kellercitizen.com, Saturday March 20 prior to 12 Noon cutoff.) - by Mike Sivertsen

I invite beleaguered taxpayers in Keller and in the multi-city Keller ISD to join with me in voting NO to any tax increases by either the City of Keller or the Keller ISD. We were told years ago by astute citizens that Town Center, a blatant example of socializing the risk to all taxpayers, was a mistake and that taxpayers would be left holding the bag. But noooo, some Keller politicians and others just loved to see their pet projects take shape at our expense. Instead of $2,000 per month chicken-coop looking 'artist manses' a restaurant or two would have allowed many more citizens to enjoy the lake-like surroundings while generating needed tax revenue.

The Keller ISD has made some cuts but more will be needed. What happens when the economy is worse next year? The state of Texas won't be sending more.

The only thing more ludicrous than these twin proposals to raise taxes in the midst of a depression would be to install solar panels with redistributed wealth from the feds and tell us we had to provide matching dollars (as the misguided Carrolton ISD and City of Bedford has done).

Please vote no on ISD or City of Keller tax increases.
